More Mothduggery!

Well it’s not all birds and tattoos! The last couple of nights I have been running the moth traps in the garden and all though there has not been a large amount of moths, I have recorded quite a few new species for the garden!

On Sunday night the traps contained the following moths:

  • Poplar Hawkmoth 1
  • Common Swift 2
  • Cryptic Burnished Brass 1
  • White Ermine 2
  • Ingrailed Clay 1
  • Spectacle 1
  • Peppered Moth 1
  • Mottled Beauty 1
  • Marbled Minor 1
  • Middle-barred Minor 1
  • Barred Straw 1

Out of these eleven species, four of them were new!

  • Spectacle 1

I though it was about time I tallied up how many moth species I had recorded in the garden so far this year. I was amazed to discover that it is an astounding 90 species!

A tattoo is a true poetic creation, and is always more than meets the eye. As a tattoo is grounded on living skin, so its essence emotes a poignancy unique to the mortal human condition. ― V. Vale, Modern Primitives
