Talks and Presentations

I have the following inspiring and educational talks to offer to clubs, societies, festivals and educational establishments:

Giving my right arm – a very unusual conservation initiative

Starting with an amazing birding and wildlife holiday in Southern & Central Turkey and then the sad discovery of the serious threat to the countries global significant biodiversity. I describe what inspired me to take action in a very unusual and permanent way to raise funds to support Doğa Derneği (Birdlife International partner in Turkey) and to raise awareness of the wildlife disaster facing Turkey. Getting tattooed for conservation! I also talk about the next chapter of my project; a 4,000km walk across Turkey!

During GullFest 2012 I was lucky to meet Tristan. His dedication to birds, wildlife and not at least nature conservation was readily apparent and during his talk about his conservation project in Turkey he really struck me with his great passion and perseverance. I can highly recommend Tristan’s presentations as he will give you a very special look at nature conservation and other things concerning birds and wildlife. I hope he will succeed in achieving as much as possible awareness and help for his projects. Nils van Duivendijk, author: Advanced Bird ID Guide
We invited Tristan to give a talk about his Turkey project on the 2012 Arctic Gullfest in Varanger. His personal engagement in the Turkey project was highly impressive. His very personal and colorful (!) just-do-it-approach combined with a deep appreciation of nature was great to see. During the Gullfest it became clear that his ability to see that any project is just as much about people as it is about birds. Inspiring! The Gullfest was undoubtedly made better by Tristans talk and his company! Tormod Amundsen, Architect & birder / Varanger

Tristan’s passion for birds and wildlife is writ large all over him (literally!). I highly recommend you hear (and see!) this down-to-earth guy on birds, wildlife and conservation.
He will entertain, but more importantly, I think, ignite creative action in the ways we both watch and protect the wonderful wild world around us. Martin Garner,Birding Frontiers

Tristan´s commitment to bird conservation in Turkey is truly admirable. Most of the birders who have birded on that amazingly bird-rich country have thought about all the conservation issues there, but almost no one has ever done something about it. Except Tristan, of course. He´s gone one step forward, and thanks to him (and his great tattoos!), some of the birds that we all want to see there and that are declining seriously, as well as several important areas, will benefit from his initiative. Everyone should support him in every single way they can, as that might make the difference. Daniel López-Velasco, Spain

Arctic Norway – A new and pioneering festival of birds

An introduction to a new and pioneering annual bird festival in Arctic Norway. Steller’s Eiders, King Eiders, Brünnich’s Guillemot, White-tailed Eagles, Hawk Owls, Tengmalm’s Owl, Siberian Jays, Siberian Tits, Pine Grosbeaks, Willow Grouse, Killer Whales, Otters,  Norwegian Lemming, Reindeer and Snow Hare are just some of the wildlife highlights. The adventure of dog sled rides into the taiga forest and pelagics into the Barent Sea. Exploring the as yet untapped vagrancy potential. Beautiful landcape, amazing culture. A life changing experience!

The Hula Bird Festival - Birding in the classroom of the Western Palearctic and conservation crossing borders

A personal account of the amazing bird festival in the Hula Valley, Northern Israel. Experiencing 37,000+ Common Cranes at close quarters, incredible range of exciting raptors, three species of Kingfisher, sunbirds, Jungle Cats and much, much more. I talk about the amazing birds of northern Israel and the superb conservation projects spanning political borders.

A tattoo is a true poetic creation, and is always more than meets the eye. As a tattoo is grounded on living skin, so its essence emotes a poignancy unique to the mortal human condition. ― V. Vale, Modern Primitives
